AMC Orders Another Season of 'Comic Book Men' and 'Talking Dead'

From AMC's blog :

AMC announced today a second season pick-up for its unscripted series Comic Book Men andTalking Dead...The series continues to delve into fanboy culture by following the antics in and around Smith's New Jersey comic shop, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. Talking Dead, the network's first live after show that serves as a platform for discussion for AMC's series The Walking Dead  ...Chris Hardwick (Nerdist; G4) is the host. Season two of both series consists of 16 half-hour episodes.

I'm glad these shows are getting another season. I'm hoping that they'll grow a little and become more comfortable in their formats. This past season it seemed both shows were trying to gather their footing.

COMIC BOOK MEN
The half-hour length should improve Comic Book Men immensely. Reduced from the one-hour run time of the first season should help liven up the pace. Often the show seemed to add filler to kill time. The items customers brought in to sell or appraise were oftentimes rare and had interesting origins. This is what made it the 'Pawn Stars' of pop culture. Essentially borrowing the format to find an angle for the comic book shop program. It's not ground-breaking but the real-life staff gave the show some personality for better or worse. It's not the ultimate representation of the comic book shop business. It's just merely a glimpse of Kevin Smith's buddies and their day-to-day shenanigans. While this premise didn't please everybody and with legitimate reasons let's hope that Men expands their horizons.

TALKING DEAD
Talking Dead follows in the footsteps of Bravo's 'Watch What Happens Live' as their live talk show following every new episode of  The Walking Dead. The great zombie apocalypse show based on Robert Kirkman comic book series found a great host in Chris Hardwick who shares the same wild enthusiasm as it's audience. He began a little shaky in adjusting to the show's format. He seemed nervous but progressively got more comfortable in commenting on the episode that just aired and asking his panel of guests questions. They do a nice job of including cast members, producers and even Kirkman himself along with celebrity fans  to discuss what they just saw. It adds some behind-the-scenes information about the episode as well as getting reaction from people like Patton Oswalt or Dave Navarro. Here's to more zombie mania.
