"Wonder Woman" of the Day: Lynda Carter

Today's "Wonder Woman" of the Day is none other than fan-favorite and my childhood crush Lynda Carter. The tall brunette, a former Miss World USA, was perfectly cast as the television heroine. She seemed to have leaped off the comic book page and onto my TV screen. Despite her varied career as an actress and singer she is still considered the benchmark for the role of WW. It will be tough to fill her boots if Hollywood ever decides to make the overdue film adaptation.

And to think she didn't think she'd get the role in the first place.

Carter's acting career took off when she landed the starring role in The New Adventures of Wonder Woman [1975-1979] as Wonder Woman and her alter ego Diana Prince. The savings her parents had set aside for her to pursue acting in Los Angeles were almost depleted, and Carter was close to returning to Arizona when her manager informed her that she had won the part. Her earnest performance endeared her to fans and critics, and the series lasted three seasons. Thirty years after first taking on the role, Carter continues to be closely identified with Wonder Woman. (via Wiki)

Here's a clip in all it's cheesy goodness:
