I am not a big fan of fan films. I don't seek them out unless its highly recommended because honestly most of them are so poorly conceived that they're unwatchable. The dialogue, the acting and action are lower than high school drama club. Fortunately,
Vida Guerra , who has a role in the film, was promoting it to her
Twitter followers and so I checked it out. It's based on Vertigo comics very popular 'Y: The Last Man' series.
Y: The Last Man is a dystopian science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. The series is about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal (barring the same man's pet monkey) on Earth. The series was published in sixty issues by Vertigo and collected in a series of ten paperback volumes (and later a series of five hardcover "Deluxe" volumes). The series' covers were primarily by J. G. Jones and Massimo Carnevale. The series received five Eisner Awards. (wiki)
What separates this fan film from others I've seen is the overall production values. The cinematography and special effects are almost television quality. The acting is better than average and the casting was dead-on. The music works well with the action to give it some power and the direction is nearly flawless. The film does bring the book to life and makes you want to see more. Enjoy!
