Forever Carlyle is Rucka's Newest Muse and They Both Rock
"Lazarus" #1 (Image Comics)
SYNOPSIS:
"FAMILY," Part One
In a dystopian near-future, government is a quaint concept, resources are coveted, and possession is 100% of the law. A handful of Families rule, jealously guarding what they have and exploiting the Waste who struggle to survive in their domains. Forever Carlyle defends her family's holdings through deception and force as their protector, their Lazarus. Shot dead defending the family home, Forever's day goes downhill from there....
REVIEW: Greg Rucka and Michael Lark have created an interesting world of feudal Families that reminds me of the Mob families of the Godfather. In this future the result of the class war hands the 1% control with only each other to battle. We are introduced to Forever Carlyle who is seemingly invulnerable and skilled at beating the crap out of her attackers. It's her story and there is more going on than meets the eye. Questions arise with issue one. What's Forever's brother up to? Is war looming with another family? Rucka aptly sparks our curiosity and draws us into this dark mysterious future-world that isn't too far-fetched. Lark's pencils perfectly match the gritty tone of the characters where nothing is crystal clear or totally defined. Rucka has once again birthed a gripping tale with a female lead worth following.
