Writer: Frank J. Barbiere Art: Toby Cypress (Dark Horse Comics)
Mob war erupts in Chinatown! In a desperate final gambit, New York’s criminal underworld and their Russian mercenaries draw the murderous White Suits into a deadly ambush, with ex-Suit Prizrak and FBI agent Sarah Anderson as hostages. With no way out but death, who will survive the “Kill Box”?
In the explosive third issue of The White Suits by Frank J. Barbiere and Toby Cypress from Dark Horse Comics the stuff hits the fan when Sarah and Prizrak are at the mercy of mercenaries and as bait for the Suits.
The exciting neo-noir thriller ratchets up the blood and action putting good use of Cypress' kinetic almost surreal art with splashes of color usually consisting of only three - black, white, and red. The pacing and dialogue is precise by Barbiere allowing Cypress to go bananas when the tension reaches its boiling point. Suddenly, the layout consists of expressive faces and panels of a fire fight surrounded by red and the sound of gun fire. WONKA! TONKA!
The transitions from the interrogation to the approaching battle is crisp and clean. Barbiere doesn't waste words instead giving the reader everything he needs to know without unnecessary exposition. The tension builds with every page-turn and with some twists along the way. It's a gritty thriller that actually thrills.
Anyone could pick up this issue and enjoy it on its own but I'd suggest gettting issues one and two if you're not already buying it. The limited series ends with #4 so get on this bloody rollercoaster ASAP!
