In The Book of Life, producer Guillermo del Toro has helped guide this romantic tale by director Jorge Gutierrez to fruition with some gorgeous animation and some familiar voices. Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, and Diego Luna headline the talented voice cast as Joaquin, Maria and Manolo respectively as the two vie for her heart.
The aesthetics of Dia de los Muertos, Mexico's holiday of remembrance for the dead, fill the screen and provide the backdrop for Manolo's journey from the Land of the Living to the Land of the Remembered and beyond. It's as much a love story as it is a story of self-discovery.
The Book of Life also stars the voices of Danny Trejo, Hector Elizondo, Placido Domingo, Ice Cube, and Christina Applegate. The movie premieres October 17, 2014.
