In a shocking twist no one saw coming, Marvel and Ant-Man director Edgar Wright released a joint statement saying the two have "parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film." The split was supposedly "amicable" and the film remains on schedule for release on July 17, 2015. A replacement is to be named soon. What went wrong?
Deadline says The World's End director and the studio have been at odds for weeks but it's unclear what specific creative differences led to him walking away. The project has been in development for years and fan reaction to Wright's involvement in the obscure hero's origin movie has made it one of the most anticipated Phase Three Marvel films. Ant-Man is the superhero persona of biochemist Hank Pym, who uses subatomic particles to invent a substance that allows him to shrink to size and communicate and control insects. Wright has been involved in the development of the movie from the beginning in 2006 and co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish. Ant-Man movie should be fine but the absence of Wright is a big disappointment to fans of his movies like Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and the comic book adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
