DC Comics Celebrates Batman Day with Free Super-Sized Comic and 75th Anniversary Timeline

Batman Day (July 23) will bring a very special edition of Detective Comics #27 featuring a re-telling of the 1939 first appearance of Batman in honor of DC Comics' year long celebration of 75 years of the Dark Knight. The best part - it's absolutely free!

Superscribe Brad Meltzer handles the storytelling while Bryan Hitch takes care of the excellent artwork. Current 'Batman' writer Scott Snyder and artist Sean Murphy provide a futuristic tale included in the super-sized issue. Frank Capullo does the cover art with a design by Chip Kidd. More importantly Bill Finger, original co-creator, gets a credit on the cover.

DC Comics also released a poster representing Batman's Timeline of milestones over the last 75 years. It includes everything from the early years of publication to the seminal editions of The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke, the 1966 television series, the numerous movie adaptations, the equally numerous Robins, the video game series, the acclaimed animated series and more. It's a pretty thorough timeline even marking the first appearances of Kate Kane as Batwoman and Stephanie Brown as Robin.

Sadly, the poster won't be given out for free.
