You know something is fishy when celebrity pap-site TMZ, not known for breaking movie set photos, gets their hands on numerous "secret" shots from the Star Wars: Episode VII set filming in Dubai. Well, conspiracy theorists grab your tin foil hats because J.J. Abrams just posted a shot from the set requesting people stop leaking photos while leaking a photo himself.
The cheeky note appeared on a pic posted on his production company's Twitter account and read, “I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII. And making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie. JJ” Curiously, the note was posted on a prop but not just any prop. It was posted to a Dejarik hologame table which you may remember was on the Millennium Falcon in the original trilogy and it was best to "let the Wookie win."
Playfully dismissing the inclusion of the famed light freighter in the film while hinting at it with a prop from it. This leads to many questions like did Abrams okay the "leaked" photos? Could TMZ have paid for access? Is this all a ploy to wrangle the narrative themselves and promote the film more? As if that were possible. It's already highly anticipated and with recent casting news and a video of the director on set with a non-CGI character from the film the hype is growing further.
The photos, plentiful and good quality, reveal a lot of practical effects are being used in the film much like the original trilogy and that has long-time fans rejoicing. What didn't help the second trilogy (Episodes 1-3) was the enormous amount of computer generated effects that made the actors almost secondary in the process. It was almost and completely animated films. So these "leaked" photos do a lot of good in reassuring the fan base that it'll be a different approach, one they've seen before and whose charm hasn't evaporated with the times.
Something that only evil finks with hidden cameras could have captured in a tightly secured film set. Wink-wink.
