On day one of her new website, Nikki Finke, legendary Hollywood scooper with no filter, just got her hands on some very anticipated release dates for Warner Bros./DC Comics movies planned for announcement at this year's San Diego Comic Con. They include not only Justice League (May 2017) but confirmation of a solo Wonder Woman (July 2017) movie as well as a team-up of The Flash and Green Lantern (X-Mas 2017). And there's more!
Her sources also say that Sandman (X-Mas 2016), Shazam (July 2016) and another Superman sequel (May 2018) are to be announced. Sadly, Metal Men and Suicide Squad movies have been shelved for now but if WB was trying to play catch-up with Marvel they're certainly doing it in a big way with three films in 2016 and 2017. That's one more a year than Marvel produces.
It appears that WB finally may have a plan and are ready to go full bore to produce the films fans have been waiting for years. Wonder Woman especially because of the inequity they've shown the iconic character when compared to the other two heroes of DC Comics trinity.
Finke also had some insight on BvS's delay:
Meanwhile, if you were wondering why Batman v Superman was delayed, it wasn’t the script or Ben Affleck or Jesse Eisenberg but with the fact that this pic will act as a launching pad for the Justice League. According to my source, “Like Marvel’s The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie. Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow. The studio didn’t want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge.”
