Some fantastic choices today on comics and trade paperbacks. DC Comics doesn't always make the best decisions. The New 52 books is a good example as most books that started the company-wide reboot have gone to the dusty bookshelf in the sky. They are still trying to innovate a little and shake things up. Debuting today is Grayson #1 by Tim Seely and Mikel Janin. Dick has hung up his (night) wings and is now playing super spy. At the very least it provides for some new exciting stories with a fan favorite at its center.
DC is also restarting Suicide Squad #1 with a new creative team and some new members. Sean Ryan and Jeremy P. Roberts will be responsible for this new international team as they head to Russia.
Joshua Hale Fialkov and Gabo make an impressive debut with The Life After #1. The story of an unmotivated worker drone who finally takes a risk and lands himself in a realm between heaven and hell. A potential gem of a series so get on this now.
Justin Jordan and Kyle Strahm debut with The Spread #1 at Image Comics. An intriguing dystopian monster story that should be a monthly thrill ride.
Fan favorite Spider-Man 2009 returns in a new ongoing series from Peter David and Will Sliney. More Spider-Man as the 100th Anniversary issue is out from Sean Ryan and In-Hyuk Lee.
Marc Andreyko takes a break from Batwoman to reboot Chaos character Chastity for Dynamite.
Two must-have trades come out today. Rocket Girl Vol. 1 from Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder. A fun time-traveling adventure involving a teenage cop from the future in New York. It's a steal at $9.99 for a great story and amazing artwork.
Justice League of America Vol. 1 collects issues #1-5 from Geoff Johns and David Finch. A team built solely to counter the Justice League "just in case" the need ever arises to put them down. A far more interesting group of heroes in Vibe, Catwoman, Martian Manhunter, Stargirl, Green Arrow and Green Lantern.
Enjoy your new comics!
