Ever since DC Comics announced the new creative team for Batgirl, Cameron Stewart, Brenden Flecther and artist Babs Tarr, the response from fans and comic book creatives has been enormous. Fueling the frenzy is the redesigned costume by Tarr that has ignited such a following online that artists have been posting their homage to the new practical , down-to-earth style, yellow Doc Martin boots and all. It got to the point that all the submissions required its own tumblr page, Batgirl of Burnside, named after her new hip neighborhood she'll be living a less gritty crime fighting existence.
Barbara Gordon is leaving the dark side of Gotham behind and living a more normal life of a young woman. She'll still kick butt when necessary but her new duds reflect the laid back tone the creative team is hoping will broaden her appeal and allow her to have some fun for a change.
The change of tone is a welcomed one considering Batgirl is a great character that could grow to become more of an accessible entry into the Bat-family for new readers and draw some old readers who seek some lighter fare than the heavy gloomy action of other Bat-books.
The new look has apparently resonated with a lot of fans and they have shown their appreciation by sharing their own drawings, paintings, digital concepts, cosplay and more.
Here are only a few examples you can find on the tumblr page:
