COMIC BOOK SPOTLIGHT: 'The Brothers James' by Ryan Ferrier, Brian Level and Michael Walsh

There are times you find a good comic book and other times a good comic book finds you. The Brothers James by Ryan Ferrier, Brian Level and Michael Walsh is a completely independent endeavor that I had the good fortune of reading because the preview was so compelling. This 'Dukes of Hazard' meets Robert Rodriguez revenge thriller is a bloody, pulpy, joyride worth taking.

After finally reading the four issues I felt embarrassed The Brothers James was not on my radar sooner. It is as good as anything at your local comic book store right now for a fraction of the price. The story follows twin brothers, Jack and John James, on an interstate killing spree of bike gang members responsible for the murder of their parents years before. It's tense, subversively humorous, and violent. It's reminiscent of Rodriguez' 'From Dusk Till Dawn' about another set of brothers on a killing spree of their own in the dusty back-roads of America. When you consider the talent behind this independently created and distributed comic you'll understand it's no fluke the story and art has a polished finish that some other web comics lack.

Ferrier has been self-publishing books for years including his Tiger Lawyer and  Monkeybrain's D4VE and established his imprint Challenger Comics to house James as well as fostering other creative independent voices with short form sequential art. Level's art has graced the pages of Valiant titles like Bloodshot and Harbinger as well as finishing work on Image's Lazarus. Walsh, who did art on the first issue, went on to work on Comeback with Ed Brisson

When you come across a gem like this the best thing you can do is share the hard work and passion of truly talented individuals that don't always get the recognition they deserve. That's why at .99 cents for each digital issue there's no excuse  not to download it now at Challenger Comics. Help support indie creators and spread the word.

THE PENULTIMATE ISSUE. The road trip of revenge barrels closer to its final destination, taking the brothers face-to-face with a notorious Baton Rouge drug lord with nefarious ties to the James family.
As the bullets and emotions fly, Tracy’s hidden agenda is revealed, threatening to tear Jack and John apart for good. One thing’s for sure, things will never be the same for the brothers James.
If this ending doesn’t kill you…you’re already dead!

The highly anticipated installment of the titular brothers brings Jack and John to Mississippi, but they didn’t get there alone…and they may not make it out alive. The Death Cult of Mississippi, the brothers must survive against a maniacal death cult, and a mysterious new presence in their life; one who’s involvement may reach far, far deeper than the brothers could imagine.

Picking up where issue #1 left off — the massacre at the Sunshine Diner — Jack and John make their way to Tennesse to continue their road trip of revenge. Things aren’t as cut and dry as the brothers had hoped however, and the pair find themselves in hot water with a group of local bikers. There’s only one way this issue can end, and believe me, it ain’t roses for the brothers James.

THE BROTHERS JAMES follows two orphans, identical twins Jack and John James, on a road trip of revenge throughout the southern United States. Their mission: hunt down and kill every member of the now-defunct motorcycle gang that viciously murdered their parents fifteen years earlier.
Death isn’t all that’s in store however, as the brothers flee a suspecting sheriff with ties to the young killers, and uncover secrets about their parents that threaten to dismantle their mission and their brotherhood.
Throughout their southern tour of destruction – filled with muscle cars and rock and roll -the James brothers face off against violent gangs, a ruthless sheriff, and even prison itself as they leave a trail of mayhem in their wake.
Revenge is a dish best served hot as asphalt, and for the members of the long retired Lucky Devils motorcycle gang, their order is up…
