Dwayne Johnson Finally Reveals He'll Play Black Adam in Shazam Movie

 

We've known for a long time that A) Warner Bros. is planning a Shazam movie and B) that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was attached to play either the title character or as most fans had wished Black Adam. Johnson had previously teased fans with mentions of playing a DC character, then mentioned the Shazam movie and now finally revealed he is in fact playing Black Adam, the villainous anti-hero and fan favorite.

Johnson went to twitter with the news and Variety has confirmed some more exclusive details. Darren Lemke (Goosebumps, Turbo, Jack the Giant Slayer) will be writing the script for New Line Cinema.

“We Love Dwayne and have had nothing but success with him over the years,” said Toby Emmerich, President and COO of New Line. “When I look at Dwayne both off screen and on screen, he is such a larger than life character and it just made perfect sense to me that we put him in a DC comic movie. You look at these comic book characters and they have this certain swag and charisma that Dwayne carries with him where ever he is so that’s why this always made sense.”

Now that we know which character Johnson will be playing the question now is who will play Shazam? Shazam is the alter-ego of young Billy Batson who is bestowed upon him the power of six gods when he utters the word 'Shazam!'. He transforms in a powerful adult hero similar.

Johnson and Hiram Garcia will be producing and no production date has been set yet.
