It's Official! Supergirl Series is Coming to CBS

Just a couple of weeks ago we had mentioned that Arrow producer Greg Berlanti was going to pitch a Supergirl series to networks and now comes word that CBS has committed to an hour-long series featuring Superman's cousin. It didn't take long for the DC Comics character to get to series after the initial report it was being offered. It also makes CBS the last national network to pick up a comic book based show and the seventh (so far) to come from one publisher.

ABC, which is owned by Disney, is home to Marvel and their Agents of SHIELD. Supergirl will be the first woman to lead her own series in this golden age of comic book television as Arrow, The Flash, Constantine, and Gotham are all led by men. A sad fact but if you're going to start a superhero show with someone not named Wonder Woman, showcasing a very powerful Krypotian like Supergirl is a good alternative.

The Wrap had the lowdown on the deal:
The drama, which will be written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti (“Green Lantern,” “Arrow,” “The Flash”) and Ali Adler (“Chuck,” “No Ordinary Family”), will follow the exploits of Kara Zor-El. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. (That would be Superman, for those not familiar with comic-book lore.) But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
