Here’s the first look at Angelica Celaya as Zed in NBC’s DC
Comics-based Constantine. She’ll be John Constantine’s ally in fighting
supernatural forces but won’t take any gruff from him even if they are former
lovers. The fan-favorite comic book character was added after Lucy Griffiths
left the series after shooting the pilot as showrunners were looking for a
different, stronger relationship than the one written for the show. They went with
an established storyline that will no doubt explore her “very dark past” and allow
her to play his foil.
"She's
someone who can go toe-to-toe with John, and that's ultimately something we
felt like we needed," executive producer Daniel Cerone previously told E! Online of Zed's
introduction to the show. "We wanted a more dynamic relationship, as
opposed to someone who is a teacher/mentor and a student. It just didn't feel
as fertile and rich of an area as just a strong a man and a strong woman who
are both very different."
Fans of the Hellblazer comic book series are excited to
see a proper adaptation after the mixed reaction of the Keanu Reeves version,
Constantine, from 2005. Apart from stills
of Celaya as Zed there’s also a new promo called ‘Trust’ you can see below.
Constantine premieres Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
