After talks were reported between Warner Bros and Breaking Bad director and producer, Michelle MacLaren, it is now official that the respected television director has signed on to not only direct but develop the Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot for release in 2017.
The veteran producer and director of some the most popular and acclaimed genre shows on television like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and X-Files, MacLaren had been on the studio's short list of female directors to helm the DC Comics movie about the iconic Amazon warrior since the summer. The focus shifted to other directors after initial talks had begun. Other candidates included Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland).
According to the THR report, MacLaren will help develop the long-awaited stand-alone film along with screenwriters to produce an acceptable script. MacLaren has earned the respect and confidence from the industry and will finally break the barrier that will make her the first woman to direct a big blockbuster comic book movie. A sad fact of the male-dominated hierarchy of the Hollywood system.
Wonder Woman will be produced by Charles Roven, Zack and Deborah Snyder. Release date is slated for June 23, 2017.
