#SaveConstantine: Season One Ends with Episode 13, Season Two in Jeopardy

In Ferris Bueller’s Day, rumors of Ferris’ demise caused people to gather together with a rallying cry of “Save Ferris.” While his demise was entirely false the threat of cancellation facing Constantine on NBC is very much real so it’s time to rally the fans and #SaveConstantine. Deadline reports that the network has ordered that production on the DC Comics adaptation of a supernatural detective and ‘Master of Dark Arts’ be halted after 13 episodes essentially ending season one without a full season pick-up. Up in the air is season two which could still happen with enough ratings support with the rest of the run.

With the show’s late start the network had to make a decision based on ratings of four episodes not the usual seven. It has not been officially canceled like shows A to Z and Bad Judge. The network at least appears to be behind the show in other ways. It has run Constantine marathons on sister station Syfy and as the show gets stronger thematically so has the ratings.
Constantine, executive produced by Daniel Cerone and David Goyer, has not been a breakout the way fellow NBC Friday genre drama Grimm was in its debut. But NBC brass were probably encouraged by the freshman’s +38% week-to-week ratings jump for Episode 5 this Friday — after the to a 1.1 among adults 18-49 in Live+Same day, the show’s highest mark since the series debut, and by its best retention of the Grimm lead-in, also since the series debut. Additionally, Constantine, based on the DC property, has strong fan base because of its comic origins and has seen big DVR lifts, most recently rising +81% in Live+3 for Episode 4, regarded by fans as a possible creative turning point in the series.
If Constantine is going to join their DC Comics television brethren Gotham on Fox and The Flash on the CW to survive it's going to need the support of fans to rally and spread the word. Live views are vital as well as repeated streaming. Fans need to get NBC's attention both in ratings and social media. I mean they picked up The Mysteries of Laura for goodness sake!
