The first name to emerge from the casting search of the upcoming CBS series, Supergirl, is Claire Holt (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals). She is among those testing for the lead role that will bring Superman's cousin to the small screen.
The Wrap reported that the CW actress, who appears on two of the networks shows, is in the mix for the high profile role. Since news broke of not only that the series was in development but that it received a season order from CBS it has been on the production fast track. It will bring a much needed strong female presence to the comic book television landscape amid the male-driven Gotham, Arrow, The Flash, and Constantine that currently air.
After escaping the destruction of her home planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El, lands on Earth and suppresses her powers until at age 24 she begins to embrace her superhuman powers and decides to help others.
The show is being written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler. Berlanti's comments about Supergirl possibly crossing over with his other produced-shows like Arrow and The Flash on the CW got fans excited. Whether there's any weight to those passing comments remains to be seen but theoretically it could happen. His production company is responsible for all three shows and he helped develop each one. He may have enough pull with CBS to be allowed to do a crossover between networks.
