Sony Acquires Movie Rights for the Forthcoming Comic Book Series

With over a month until Descender debuts from Image Comics, the sci-fi comic series has already been picked up by Sony Pictures. The studio won a bidding war to acquire the film rights to the new comic written by Jeff Lemire with art by Dustin Nguyen.

The acclaimed duo will also executive produce with Josh Bratman. The story is described as such:
The space opera tells of a time where anything android, robotic or with artificial intelligence is hunted down by bounty hunters and destroyed. On a distant mining colony, one self-aware and extremely lifelike robot called TIM-21 becomes the target of a galaxy-wide pursuit when it’s believed he may hold the key to the destruction of the galaxy.  TIM-21 bands with a rag-tag group of unlikely companions and go on the run from one exotic planet to the next with new foes advancing at every turn. (THR)
Lemire, the renowned writer of Sweet Tooth, Animal Man, Green Arrow and one of 2014' best mini-series Trillium, will be taking over Hawkeye at Marvel. Nguyen is known for his extraordinary illustrations using watercolors in many Bat-books like Detective Comics, Batman Eternal, and Batman: Lil' Gotham

Both celebrated and successful talents will have their newly acquired comic book, Descender #1, released March 4th online and at local comic book stores.

Now would be a good time to get familiar with their fantastic work if you haven't already.
