As promised, 20th Century Fox released a teaser trailer for the much maligned but anticipated Fantastic Four movie directed by Josh Trank. The trailer takes on the dark science fiction aesthetic that separates it from happy team-up movies like Marvel Studios' Avengers and sets a tone more like a realistic science experiment gone horribly wrong.
Official synopsis:
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
“Marvel’s First Family” includes Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Chronicle) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Jamie Bell (The Adventures of Tintin) as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) also stars as Doctor Doom with Reg E. Cathey (The Wire) as Dr. Franklin Storm and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) as Harvey Elder/The Mole Man.
Fantastic Four is scheduled for release in theaters on August 7.
