'Ghostbusters' will Star Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnnon

Official Release Date: July 22, 2016

The long-awaited sequel to the supernatural comedy series of films looks to be another step closer to happening as casting is underway for the all-new, all-female group for Ghostbusters. Melissa McCarthy had already been in talks to join the Paul Feig-directed reboot and now she's officially on board. The studio is now negotiating with the other three actresses.

Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon round out the four paranormal phenomenon fighting females. These three funny ladies come by way of Saturday Night Live while McCarthy stars in CBS's Mike & Molly as well as a successful film career that includes co-starring with Wiig in Feig's mega-hit comedy, Bridesmaids

Ghostbusters has had a tumultuous path to getting made. After plenty of false starts, the original director Ivan Reitman looked set to return along with the original cast including Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Harold Ramis. However, Bill Murray was non-committal and when Ramis passed away Reitman stepped back from directing.

In came Feig, whose comedic acumen and success allowed him enough sway to reimagine the film  and reboot it with an all-female cast.

Shooting is slated to begin in New York this summer.
