Print is definitely not dead as the industry has seen an upswing in sales and now Image has made it easier than ever to get the books you want. The publisher has offered their line in various digital formats on their own website for a long time, but the commitment to print is very much a priority.
"Digital is a great option, but I think a lot of people still prefer print, and I think that’s going to be the case for a significant amount of time, especially where comics are concerned," [Publisher Eric] Stephenson told CBR News
It's a distribution method that makes sense as not every reader gets their favorite books in the same way. There's already a growing market of female readers that buys digital issues and now those same buyers who don't or can't set foot in a brick and mortar comic book store can get physical copies delivered. Something that Image was mindful of.
"Our partners in the Direct Market do a fantastic job but just as our relationship with comic book stores has not prevented us from exploring other sales channels, in bookstores and via digital distribution, I don’t think it should hold us back from trying to reach those readers who aren’t either aren’t served by their local comic book shops, or who don’t have one in their area via our own efforts," Stephenson said.
