Marvel announced today an all-new, all-female Avengers team consisting of She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and others with a newcomer named Singularity. A-Force will be written by G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite Bennett with art by Jorge Molina. The team will launch out of the new Secret Wars initiative that begins in May
Among the many heroes featured on the cover are Storm, Rogue, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), Phoenix, Scarlet Witch, Elektra, Aurora, Spectrum, Rescue, Hellcat, Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy), Firestar, Vindicator, Black Widow, Jubilee, Lucy In The Sky, Snowbird, Pixie, and Moondragon.
The team is assembled out of necessity when a threat emerges in the Battlezone world of the feminist paradise known as Arcadia. This Avengers team will be the only one as all others will have disbanded.
Marvel has made a commitment to offer more female-led books including Black Widow, Captain Marvel and most notably the successful reboot of Ms. Marvel as a young Muslim girl written by Wilson.
"We're having very interesting discussions in comics about gender, about competing ideologies, about how to be inclusive without making fans of the classic canon feel alienated. These are big questions for the whole industry right now and everybody is grappling to answer in fresh and relevant ways. So to be part of that is very, very cool for me." (USA Today)
