The comic book Pick of the Week is really a trade paperback. Goners Vol.1: We All Fall Down by Jacob Semahn, Jorge Corona, Steve Wand, and Gabriel Cassata is an exciting horror-fantasy tale that is fast-paced, beautifully illustrated with charming characters and frightening monsters. It's an enthralling adventure story that collects Goners issues 1-6 and for only $9.99 there's no reason not to pick it up.

The Family Latimer have been fighting the paranormal for generations. They've been what's stood between us and them. It all changes when Raleigh and Evelyn Latimer are murdered on live television during their reality show. Their young children, Zoe and Josiah, barely have time to mourn when those evil forces come after them. The young Latimers are thrust into a dangerous, heart-pounding adventure that will have you gasping for air. 

Semahn has created such an epic journey for Zoe and Josiah that it tugs at your heart at times and quickens your pulse at others. The relationship between brother and sister is at the center of their survival as they have to rely on one another amid all the chaos and monsters. And there is a lot thrown at them. Along the way, they discover some very important revelations about the lineage of the Latimers and the power they themselves possess. Nothing comes easy as Semahn throws a whirlwind of monstrous obstacles in their way. It's a roller coaster ride full of thrills, chills, and kills. 

The art team of Jorge Corona (pencils),  Steve Wands (inker/letterer), and Gabriel Cassata (colors), bring this world of mythical beasts and demons to life with a stylish cartoon look full of depth, detail and color. Corona's layouts project the speed and danger of each scene with creative "camera angles" and perspectives that accentuate the action. He goes above and beyond what is required in providing detail in each panel and his character designs are second to none. Wands inks are essential as he compliments Corona's lines with added integrity.His letters aren't too bad either. But it's Cassata's colors that give this book its bold, rich flavor. From deep purples to lush greens and vivid reds, Cassata is the mad scientist conjuring magic behind Corona's extraordinary illustrations. 

Goners is an entertaining supernatural adventure with all the whimsy and danger of Goonies, Hellboy and Spielberg's best combined. It reads fast, looks great and a must buy. Do yourself a favor and pick up Goners Vol.1: We All Fall Down and catch the second arc of the adventure from Image Comics later this year.
