These Beloved Comics Characters Deserve Quality TV Adaptations

Over the years, we’ve seen numerous comic book characters hit the small screen, with varying levels of success. The adaptations have come from all across the comic book spectrum too. Marvel’s had its fair share of shows, including Agents of Shield on ABC and Luke Cage over at Netflix. DC’s been active as well, with shows like Flash, Gotham, and Supergirl all making their marks. Even Archie and friends got in on the action, with the smashing success of Riverdale.

Our question is, why stop there? There are plenty of other comic book franchises that would be perfect fits for TV. Let’s take a look at just a few of them.

Red Sonja

It’s no secret that female-led superhero films are on the rise. With Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel having made waves at the box office, and Black Widow and Birds Of Prey on the way to cinemas, TV networks could well be tempted to get in on the long-overdue trend. And who better to headline a show of her own than the classic sword-and-sorcery heroine Red Sonja? Spartantown has covered the she-devil before, and we’d love to see a live-action take on her hit the small scene.

Lobo

With Marvel’s merc-with-a-mouth Deadpool having had his way with theaters twice over now, there’s more than enough evidence to prove that people love hilarious, foul-mouthed, indestructible mercenaries. Thankfully for DC, it has one of its own just waiting to be adapted! Lobo’s been fragging interstellar targets for bounties for over 30 years now. Isn’t it time he got a chance to do it live?

Hulk and She-Hulk

Because of bizarre complexities in legal rights, Marvel hasn't been allowed to produce solo movies starring the Hulk since 2008's The Incredible Hulk. While this means that Hulk has had to play second fiddle to everyone else throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a TV show might represent the perfect loophole and could allow everybody's favorite big green menace to take up a starring role. Plus, Marvel could introduce She-Hulk in the process, which would be a new treat for fans.

Superman

We know what you’re thinking: Superman’s already overdone. He’s had plenty of movies (of varying quality), plenty of games from mobile apps to casino slots, and previous stints on TV. It's to the point that there are even Superman media based on other Superman media - specifically, games based on old films. Among the free slots you can find at online gambling platforms, you'll see titles based on Man Of Steel and Superman The Movie, rather than on the comics! The problem, really, is that there have been so many adaptations of different sorts, the character has been muddled over the years. DC’s top hero deserves a TV show that’s billed as a definitive interpretation in a way no other modern take has been.

Namor

While Marvel’s had a pretty good track record when it comes to bringing more obscure characters to the big screen (like the Guardians of the Galaxy and Dr. Strange), jumping right into a Namor movie might be biting off more than it can chew. He's still an interesting character though, and we wonder if it might be best to introduce the pompous Atlantean via a TV show of his own, before potentially transitioning him into the MCU proper. That, or he could be introduced directly to the big screen in a supporting role in another hero's film. In fact, if the rumors are true, Marvel might be planning to do exactly that sooner than we thought.
