PREVIEW: 'Wonder Woman' #79 by G. Willow Wilson, Scott Eaton, and Wayne Faucher

The world in G. Willow Wilson’s Wonder Woman has become a frightening place, but perhaps nothing is more chilling than the way Cheetah and her God Killer sword seem to have utterly defeated Diana.

A missing friend returns as a world and hero gradually fall to pieces in this exclusive first look at Wonder Woman #79.
That’s right. Wonder Woman. One of the most powerful heroes on the planet.

In Wonder Woman #78, we saw Barbara Ann Minerva easily best Diana in battle, destroying both her Lasso of Truth and her iconic bracers with a slice of her seemingly undefeatable sword. She made it look simple, and since her defeat, Diana just hasn’t seemed the same. She looks beaten, worn down, older… It’s as if the spirit that has driven her since she first set foot in man’s world has gone out, and it’s unnerving to witness.

Ever since the Cheetah murdered Aphrodite at the end of Wonder Woman #76, the horrors of a world without love have become gradually apparent. With no care, selflessness or empathy, human society seems to be slowly unraveling. Even worse, it doesn’t look like there’s a way to stop it. Aphrodite is dead. There’s no bringing her back. And you can’t fight the sudden disappearance of something that once was, especially when it’s as intangible as it is important.

So, with a battle that appears utterly futile and a hero who has never seemed more lost, what hope does the world have? Perhaps none. Or perhaps we’ll find other heroes stepping up to attempt to heal our broken world. Could they be the spark that Diana needs to get her mojo back? Hints and teasers abound—along with the return of a friendly face—in this exclusive sneak peek of this week’s Wonder Woman #79.
