First 'Birds of Prey' Trailer Finds Harley Looking for a Fresh Start with Her Girl Gang
As expected, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for 'Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)' with Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley from the successful 'Suicide Squad' film.
This time, Harley is indeed emancipated so to speak as her relationship with the Joker is over. She's looking for a "fresh start" and still finds plenty of trouble. The trailer is a huge montage of action and violence all narrated by Harley herself. She convinces the Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) to join forces to take on the evil crime lord Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).
The trailer is full of mayhem and snippets of dialogue. The look is dark like David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' but stylized reminiscent of Edgar Wright or Danny Boyle. Director Cathay Yan seems to have found the right type of tonal influence for such an unpredictable character like Harley. She's clearly the focus here with very little to make of the other members of her girl gang. There's still plenty of time as the film doesn't come out for another five months. We'll get closer looks at the other characters soon enough.
'Birds of Prey 'arrives in theaters on February 7, 2020.
