Time travel stories are some of the most exciting and adventurous in any medium. Anything can happen, characters can literally rewrite history, and the stakes are always high when it comes to getting back to the future. In the hands of Mark Millar, time travel is a fun exhilarating exercise that's part buddy comedy and part science fiction thriller. This second arc of 'Chrononauts' finds time-traveling physicists Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly fours years in the future with a fancy new time machine with new goals. Of course, things don't go exactly as planned.

Now known as worldwide scientific rock stars, Danny and Corbin, have the funding they need to continue their time travel research. Unfortunately, the goal now is to go forward in time now instead of backward. It's not working out quite well but in true Chrononauts fashion, they find themselves in some crazy situation visiting the past. They may be pros at this time travel thing but they haven't exactly grown up entirely. Corbin is trying to balance his time-consuming voyages with his domestic life. Danny and Corbin, however, are closer than ever and having a blast running from Vatican guards or hanging out with DaVinci. What's at stake is their funding if they don't find a way to the future. And that's not the worst of their problems as some observers will make their plans known.

'Chrononauts' may be the most fun Millar has writing. You can feel the exuberance in the dialogue and actions of Danny and Corbin. There's a real camaraderie and joy in their adventurous however dangerous they may be. The series has this unbeatable mix of films like 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure,' 'Real Genius,' and 'Indiana Jones.' It's just a flat-out good time to read.

Image Comics actually released all four issues in the mini-series on Wednesday allowing readers to binge all at once if they choose. This review just covers the first issue but other issues will get their own.

Eric Canete taking over the art duties from a very busy Sean Murphy was a stroke of genius. I never noticed how similar their styles were. It's not exact but equally visceral and kinetic. Giovanna Niro's colors add a little psychedelic design to the time portals and warm monochromatic layers elsewhere. The art is this arc hasn't dropped off one bit.

'Chrononauts: Futureshock' #1 is a complete joy to read. The Danny and Corbin bromance is back and their time travel adventures are as crazy as ever. There are some new wrinkles this time around with more at stake which makes this mini compulsively readable. Get it now and eat it up. It's delicious.
