Finally! The moment fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. The Kick-Ass versus Hit-Girl in 'Kick-Ass vs Hit-Girl' finally came to fruition. The showdown was inevitable after Patience Lee donned the costume in her own series and after traveling the world on her own, Mindy aka Hit-Girl set her sights on this imposter.
However, their tussle early on in the issue is short-lived. Outside forces interrupt the deadly standoff. The buildup was much anticipated but the confrontation was too brief! Still, it was fun to see them together. As fans, we would have loved a much longer battle but hopefully, this was yet another tease of what's to come in future issues. There's the obvious confusion for each. Mindy thinks Patience is just a poser sullying Dave's memory as the original Kick-Ass. Patience doesn't understand why Mindy's attacking her. It's a tense scene that not only escalates but puts them both in equal danger. Steve Niles does an exceptional job of writing fluid action sequences while providing minimal dialogue. This economy of words leads to amazing sequential art by Marcelo Frusin and Sunny Gho.
'Kick-Ass vs Hit-Girl' lives up to its title albeit briefly in the exciting showdown we've all waited for. Niles lets Frusin and Gho do the heavy-lifting with some tense, action-filled, panels that drive the story when words aren't enough. For fans of this universe, the series is starting to pay off.
