'The Wrong Earth: Night and Day' has been a refreshing delight. Its wholesome old-fashioned superhero stylings have melted the cynic in me. The duo of identical heroes from two different earths with polar-opposite approaches to justice is the kind of throwback in comics we needed right now. 'The Wrong Earth' is just fun and exciting in the way Saturday cartoons and Adam West's 'Batman' used to be.
Tom Peyer has found the perfect tone for these two contrasting characters. Dragonfly isn't an over-the-top sadistic vigilante and Dragonflyman isn't the campy saccharin do-gooder you'd expect. They each have their own code and live by it to each other's chagrin. It's a buddy action-comedy that is more 'Rush Hour' than '48 Hours' and that suits it just fine. Not surprisingly, they both learn to respect one another and Dragonfly learns the two aren't that different after all.
Issue 2 finds them trapped and under the thumb of the villain. They have to work together to make it out alive. It's a complete blast with plenty of action that is brilliantly captured by artists Jamal Igle, Andy Troy, and Juan Castro. Igle's designs, Troy's bright bold colors, and Castro's perfect inks combine to make a cinematic display of car wrecks and near escapes.
'The Wrong Earth: Night and Day' is an entertaining escape that reminds you why you love comics in the first place. An odd couple of caped crusaders from different worlds take a beating but keep on ticking in this second issue that charms and thrills.
